After living the dream of two summers in row, I was a little worried about how I was going to cope with May: the month when it officially Gets Cold.
But I’ve gotta say, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. After four years in Canada, where I basically spent three months of the year hibernating, I forgot how mild the weather is in Australia. (Not that most Melbournians would agree. This week I overheard someone say, “13 degrees out there – freezing!”)
I actually think that Melbourne in May strikes a perfect balance: it’s warm enough that you can still get out and enjoy the best of autumn (leaves changing colour, walks in the brisk air, not dying of heat exhaustion five minutes into a jog etc) but cold enough that you can rightly justify a night in snuggled up with hot tea, red wine, a grilled cheese sandwich and a stack of DVDs. As you’ll see from the pictures, I did my fair share of both this month.
Whether you love autumn or you hate it, I hope you enjoy this month’s photo collection.
